Rano Asks BUMD to Contribute Realizing Jakarta as Top 50 Global Cities

Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno reminded Regional-Owned Enterprise (BUMD) to be able to respond global development and support Jakarta pursuing top 50 of global city.

It is because both external and internal economic challenges are getting tougher," Rano said, while opening the BUMD Leader's Forum 2025 at Tavia Hotel Heritage, Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (4/22).
Rano appreciates and hopes that this activity can be a means of communication for BUMD caretakers and various stakeholders in formulating collaborative strategies to realize Jakarta as a competitive global city.
Rano also hopes the synergy between Jakarta Provincial Government and BUMD will continue to be strengthened in order to face various challenges in transformation process.
According to Rano, Jakarta contributed significantly to the national GDP in 2024 by 16.71 percent with its new role as an economic center and global city. Jakarta also contributed 14.1 percent of the total national investment according to BKPM data in 2025.
Current Global City Index report still ranks Jakarta 74th out of 156 world cities. It means there are still various urban challenges that need to be handled together to pursue Jakarta into the top 50 global cities by 2030.
Rano also reminded all BUMDs to be more sensitive to the economy and international geopolitics
dynamics. Tariff war between the United States and several countries is considered to impact the global economy and BUMD business line.It is necessary to strengthen collaboration and synergy with all stakeholders, both central and regional, such as with ministries, institutions, BUMN and other regional governments, other regional BUMDs and private entities as the solution.
"BUMD must run fundamental governance improvements. It also includes the preparation of financial reports, business processes by professionals in an accountable and transparent manner. So they can bring Jakarta BUMD to conduct an IPO in the next few years," he explained.
Head of Regional-Owned Enterprise Management Agency (BP BUMD), Nasruddin Djoko Surdjono stated thus BUMD leader forum activity is an activity designed as a forum for self- application of all BUMD managers and related stakeholders to discuss strategic issues and collaboration in order to develop BUMD. This forum is expected to assist BUMD transformation strategy that is adaptive and innovative to external and internal challenges.
The BUMD Leaders forum was participated by 14 Jakarta BUMDs. It was held with interactive discussion by presenting economic experts and practitioners such as Ignatius Jonan.
"We need to strengthen the BUMD strategic understanding in accelerating Jakarta as a global city and to explore various strategies for BUMD to implement in improving business relations that are adaptive to change through transformation and innovation," he stated.
